Giving Back Experiences

We are committed to showcasing the social and economic purpose of the travel industry and making a positive difference to both the local communities and the environment during our time in Cancun. Travel is all about being part of a global community and so at this year’s Advantage Conference, we have organised a range of philanthropic experiences for delegates to get involved with and support ‘giving back’ to local communities whilst creating a lasting impact on the destination.

These activities will form part of the conference programme and will take place on the afternoon of Friday 17 May. Delegates will be able to participate in one of the activities which are now available to book – please see details below for each activity. Places will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

Beach Clean

Our friends at Intrepid will host a beach clean up activity at a local beach, approximately 30 minutes from the resort, transfers to and from will be organised for all those participating.

Blue Religion is a marine conservation organisation that focuses on addressing the various issues affecting our oceans through marine conservation projects, pollution control projects, environmental education, and expeditions (ecotourism). They will be facilitating the activity on the day.

Location: This activity will take place on a local beach offsite.

Smiley Piñata

The perfect combination of fun and team spirit as delegates will work in groups to create a traditional, Mexican piñata. The teams will complete a series of tasks to earn each of the key elements and materials needed to create their pinata. Once completed, these typical Mexican celebration items will be stuffed full of surprises such as sweets, toys and school supplies and donated to local children’s charities.

Ecobricks

With 40 per cent of the world’s waste currently burned and generating vast amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere, Ecobricks offer a creative alternative use for waste materials. In this experience, delegates will make Ecobricks using PET bottles and non-recyclable waste which will then be used in sustainable construction projects within the local community such as park benches.

Wheelchair Building

Delegates will have the opportunity to work together as a team to build a wheelchair by completing a series of tasks. Completed wheelchairs will be donated to local community projects for those in need.
